Skua Marine is one year old!

Skua Marine has successfully reached a one year milestone.  We’ve provided project management and project engineering services for offshore wind decommissioning and marine civil construction as well as providing consultancy services for ocean science surveys and developed novel solutions for wave energy installations.

It’s a privilege to use our knowledge and experience in the sector to de-risk and deliver projects to client satisfaction.

The project pipeline is looking healthy for next years trading and we’re set to grow to meet the demand.

A huge thanks to all customers, suppliers, advisors, colleagues, friends and family!

C-DART employs a novel method of catching and connecting a horizontal surface mooring hawser and electrical jumper to the offshore buoy, using conventional workboats. Disconnection is achieved with a separate retrieval towline, using a similar catch and connect method. The process is not reliant upon divers, ROVs or offshore lifting, and does not require the close interaction of boats, WECs or other floating bodies. The C-DART system operates without the use of actuators, stored energy, complex mechanisms or backup power, thus maximising life, reliability, and availability.

As a technology, C-DART uses novel geometry in and around the waterline to eliminate the use of divers, ROVs and over-side working, which ultimately facilitates safer marine operations that can be conducted in larger sea states. To date the device has been developed for floating wave energy devices and throughout the course of this nine month project this development will continue, as well as demonstrating applicability to floating tidal energy platforms.

Wave Energy Scotland Quick Connect Project Stage 2 Win

Skua Marine are proud to be partnering with Blackfish Engineering on Stage 2 of the Wave Energy Scotland project for a quick connection system for both mooring and electrical connections. The novel C-DART concept was developed in Stage 1 of this project by Blackfish Engineering and Skua Marine and successfully passed through a competitive stage gate with a strong all-round proposal.

Skua Marine will contribute to this project through a series of detailed feasibility studies focused on marine operations procedures, risk reduction, and cost reduction in demanding sea conditions and a challenging economic environment. We’ll also be supporting lead partner Blackfish and working along-side consortium members ETA and Morek to deliver numerical and physical modelling and design to show feasibility of the C-DART system.
